Additional MIddle School Curriculum Highlights

Fitness
The St. Andrew’s Middle School fitness program promotes wellness, individual accountability, and group cohesion through age-appropriate activities. The fitness program includes the Presidential Fitness Test, which is designed to measure the basic fitness level of each student. Students in grades 5–8 also participate in a variety of games, including floor hockey, dodge ball, basketball relays, kickball and whiffle ball. The running program teaches basic fundamentals of running using dot mats, ladders, mini-hurdles, and jump ropes. Each fitness class includes a warm-up and stretching period.

Computer Science
Students in grades 5–8 are introduced to the Office Suite (including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools) and continue their touch typing skill development. Students enhance their ability to use the World Wide Web for research, especially in evaluating a source for its validity. Most skills are developed using project-based learning as well as continual use of the skills in class. Students learn which technology tools will best help their ability to learn and master material from their other classes, supporting the brain based learning methods used by teachers in the Middle School.
