The new movie Race to Nowhere (rated PG-13) is being released
nationwide and already has received significant media coverage about the
issues of stress, homework, and anxiety for American school children.
This film has not yet been shown in Mississippi, and St. Andrew’s is
offering a FREE SCREENING in the North Campus Center for Performing Arts
Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for parents, students, faculty, and the
community.
Our
three learning facilitators saw this movie at a recent national
conference and heard the film’s producer discuss its message. They
highly recommend it. By St. Andrew’s making the film available for its
faculty, students and parents, our goal is to be able to foster
constructive conversation about these issues that we hear a lot about
but which rarely receive an opportunity to be discussed constructively.
St. Andrew’s is not endorsing all of the messages in the movie, but we
are eager to have a way for these issues to be seriously considered in
our approach to teaching and learning.
The film’s website, www.racetonowhere.com, will provide you some background and video clips of the movie.
St.
Andrew's screening is Thursday, April 7, in the CPA: 6:00 (light
refreshments), 6:30 film showing, 8:00 panel of psychologists and
educators discuss the film and answer questions, adjournment probably
between 8:30 and 9:00.
