Early Childhood Education

Dear prospective families,

At St. Andrew’s, we know that the early childhood years are a developmentally unique period of time in a person’s life: aside from the more obvious physical changes that young children undergo, language ability expands, cognitive capacity increases, social skills become more robust, and individual identity starts to form. In short, the earliest years build the foundation for who children become – as learners, as people, as citizens of the world.

In our Early Childhood program we understand the distinct opportunities and challenges that young learners face, and the environment is intentionally crafted to maximize learning opportunities for each individual child. Experienced, qualified, and caring teachers are an integral part of what makes St. Andrew’s a premier educational destination for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. With an emphasis on social-emotional learning in a play-based setting, our educators work with children to instill feelings of competence, awareness, and independence in their lives.

Foundational goals throughout the Early Childhood program include:

  • Learning to verbally communicate everyday needs to adults and peers.
  • Developing awareness and practice of emotional regulation.
  • Becoming responsible for personal belongings and contributing to classroom community through daily jobs.
  • Respecting personal boundaries and safely interacting with peers throughout the day.
  • Developing an understanding of compromise and conflict resolution.

As children transition from Pre-K3 to Pre-K4, additional emphasis is placed on socializing with peers and promoting interest in academic content. In Kindergarten, students are encouraged to start applying academic skills and concepts.

St. Andrew’s youngest learners are nurtured in Mississippi’s premier early childhood program, which is now supported by state-of-the-art facilities designed precisely for them. Students enjoy an abundance of natural light, loft space in each classroom, outdoor access from every room, and an expansive playground area. Every detail, large and small, is expressly for their benefit.

Contact our Admissions office today for more information or to set up a tour. We look forward to seeing you soon.
