Global Studies Programs

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School offers the most comprehensive global studies program in Mississippi.

The global studies program includes the study of world languages and cultures, history and geography, the arts and humanities, and science and math, all from a global perspective. This groundbreaking program touches every grade level and every subject studied, preparing students to become productive citizens of their communities, state, country, and the world.

Students from pre-K through Upper School have opportunities to participate in interactive programs with peers across the country and around the world. St. Andrew’s welcomes visiting musicians, artists, authors, and scientists from around the globe, and hosts various lecture series' open to students, faculty, alumni, parents, and visitors from outside the school community.

The St. Andrew’s world languages program begins with the study of Mandarin and Spanish in pre-K, and continues into the Upper School, where students have opportunities to study French, German, Latin, Mandarin, or Spanish. After-school enrichment programs offer additional training in French, Mandarin, and Spanish.

Middle School students have opportunities to participate in supervised trips nationally and abroad, while Upper School students have multiple opportunities to live and study in other countries. St. Andrew’s typically offers a dozen international travel options each year, most involving home stays, applied language learning, and service projects. International exchange programs with partner schools in China, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Japan, Peru, Scotland, and Spain allow St. Andrew’s students to spend extended time studying and living overseas, and bring students from those countries to St. Andrew’s to share their experiences, knowledge, and worldviews. Through the Guillot Global Fellows travel grant program, students can design and carry out their own international service and educational projects in destinations worldwide.

The only program of its kind in the state, the global studies program brings the world to St. Andrew’s, and offers St. Andrew’s students the world.

Global Studies Ambassadorships

This year the opportunities for hosting foreign exchange students have been expanded. There are three groups coming in the spring each for two weeks. There is an application process and an interview for this extremely rewarding experience; however, there are plenty of opportunities to host and welcome an exchange student into your home, even if you do not take the language. If selected to host, the host student, now named Global Studies Ambassador, will provide a welcoming and fun environment for the student in their own home. Hosting is a great opportunity to have fun and meet new people. If you are interested, please complete this form or email Global Studies Director Przemek Tokarski if you have any questions.
