Lower School Fitness

First and Second Grade Fitness

Throughout the year in first and second grade fitness there are five types of lessons: rhythm, coordination, fitness, team game and free choice. In fitness class the first and second grade students will learn and practice different skills with a variety of equipment from bean bags to balls and scoops, play games learning rules and using the different types of equipment, and learn about the five aspects of health related fitness: cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, body composition, muscular strength and endurance.

Third Grade Fitness

During the first semester in third grade fitness there are five types of lessons: rhythm, coordination, fitness, team game and free choice. Through out the lessons they will learn and practice different skills with a variety of equipment, play games learning rules and using the different types of equipment, and learn about the five aspects of health related fitness: cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, body composition, muscular strength and endurance.

Fourth Grade Fitness

After finishing up our Deck Tennis Unit, fourth grade is beginning the Presidential and National Physical Fitness Unit. The students will be participating in 5 health related physical fitness tests: curl-ups, shuttle run, v-sit and reach, push-ups and the 1 mile test. Any student that scores 85% or higher on all tests according to the standards will receive the Presidential Physical Fitness Award and any student that scores 50% or higher on all tests according to the standards will receive the National Physical Fitness Award. At the end of this unit, each student will bring home a chart with their scores written on it as well as the standards for Presidential and National Awards.
