Lower School Technology
Students in Kindergarten thru 4th grade explore technology relevant to their age and developmental abilities throughout the year. The standards defined by the International Society for Technology in Education are used as a guide to remain current in an ever-so-changing technological world. Students become familiar with terminology and current trends related to curriculum as well as their personal interests. They learn to use programs like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to create individual and group projects that support and extend classroom learning.
Kindergarten students will begin computer classes 2nd semester. We can't wait!
First grade students enjoyed learning about the parts of a computer and how the mouse works during the first few weeks of school. They have learned how to open the Internet and navigate the favorites bar to locate the assigned game that supports and extends classroom learning. Before long, they will be learning to use Microsoft Word and creating an e-journal just like the "big kids"!
First term, second grade students learned about basic parts of the computer and some of the basic keyboard buttons. Students are now beginning a more in depth study of the keyboard. We will practice the home row keys and correct posture while typing. As requested by some very enthusiastic typists, you may access the games we play in class by clicking the links below.
Third grade students began the year by reviewing the parts of a computer and by learning the importance of logging on and off the computer. Following that, students whizzed through Microsoft Word with flying colors- literally! They learned about changing font style, size, and color as well as how to insert and manipulate clip art in their electronic journals (e-journals for short). Before long, they even began to use background colors and borders! Students continue to broaden their technology horizons now with a study on Microsoft PowerPoint. They have created wonderful digital presentations about owls!
One fourth grade class each quarter is also responsible for an eco-friendly newsletter. Mrs. Luke's class is working hard on the first 2011-2012 Lower School Saints' News. Watch for links as the newsletters are completed each term.
