St. Andrew’s was the first school in Mississippi to offer a Peer Leadership mentoring program. Sixteen seniors representing a cross-section of the school community are chosen to serve as mentors, meeting with a group of 10 freshmen once per week. The seniors lead an in-depth discussion addressing the issues freshmen face as they make the transition to Upper School. Topics may be as serious as Honor Code infractions or as light as what to wear to Homecoming. Through the Peer Leadership program, seniors serve as role models and confidantes, and freshmen learn that while everyone struggles from time to time, they can count on their peers at St. Andrew’s for support.
“At my old school, I was known as one of the ‘smart kids’ and not for much more. At St. Andrew’s, I’m known as a kid who is smart, and who sings, and who plays sports. They don’t see me as just a smart kid. They see everything I have to offer.”
