St. Andrew's views the college search and decision-making process as an integral part of every St. Andrew's student's education. We aim to help students understand that a college choice is not a trophy to be acquired; rather, it is another step in their path to a fulfilling adult life. Our college counselors firmly believe that there are many schools that would make a good fit for each student. It is our mission to help students find the best possible match for their own future.

Applying to college is, in many ways, a rite of passage; it is also a chance for students to reflect upon their personal story up to that point and to tell that story in a thoughtful, personal way. Each student is different and will pursue his or her college aspirations in a manner that is consistent with his or her personality and future plans. We provide our students with all the help and support they need to engage with the college search process in a self-directed way, in partnership with our colleagues and the students' families.

We assist students in developing a full, holistic understanding of the college application process, beginning early in high school. We encourage freshmen and sophomores to start exploring possible schools in a low-pressure way. As junior and senior years approach, we begin to break down the elements of a successful application, from standardized testing to application essays to teacher recommendations to financial aid and scholarships and more.

Again, while we are always available to assist our students and their families with each and every aspect of the college search process, we encourage families to let their child "take the wheel" and manage most of the process themselves. We always conduct our advisory efforts from a "child first" perspective, in a manner consistent with the St. Andrew's mission and with the utmost integrity.

We look forward to helping each St. Andrew's student begin the adventure of choosing a college. We believe that this is an exciting chapter in the path to adulthood, and we strive to help our students and families navigate this terrain with good information, a broad perspective, and a touch of wisdom and optimism.
