Service Learning

Pre-K3 – Grade 4

St. Andrew’s believes that community service provides opportunities for developing leadership and initiative, encourages a commitment to social responsibility, educates and acquaints students on the needs and concerns of the greater community, and gives them the opportunity to help meet those needs by becoming involved in working with others. Lower School students learn about serving their fellow students and being good stewards of their environment by adopting a portion of the school grounds to keep presentable. St. Andrew’s will offer monthly opportunities for students to bring items to school for others to use (outgrown uniforms and shoes) or to be recycled (older electronics, batteries, etc.). Students will continue to have the opportunity to participate in service projects such as Double Dollar Dress Down Days to support local charities, canned food drives, and collecting quarters for Heifer International. Students will hear about the needs of our local community, state, nation, and world especially in relation to the focus areas of hunger, health, and education. Classes will partner with classes at Brown Elementary to understand the importance of community partnerships. Students will celebrate the year of service learning in the spring with a Chapel service and class celebrations.

Boots and sandals, which are not conducive to school environment, are not allowed.
When the DDD is for a charity fund raiser, it is called DDDDD or Double Dollar Dress Down Day, and students may donate $2 for the privilege of dressing down.
