- Trenton Lee Stewart – Spoke to Middle Schoolers about his book series, The Mysterious Benedict Society
- Jessie Sima – Author and illustrator who spoke with Kindergarten and 1st grade students
- Unity Day – Celebration that focuses on the importance of respecting all members of our community in order to eliminate bullying.
Programs and Initiatives for Faculty
- Lunch and Learns
- New Teacher Mentoring Program
- First year faculty, staff, and administrators are given peer mentors to help them navigate the first week of school with regards to teaching and advisory responsibilities.
- Required observations and conversations
- Professional Development specifically related to Diversity and Inclusivity. Past opportunities include:
- Unconscious Bias in the Learning Environment presented by Shirley Pandolifi; UMMC Cultural Competency and Education Manager
- The Power of Being – An open dialogue and discussion that will continue to help us all move forward. The purpose of this professional development is to discuss and express our thoughts, think of it in terms of your authentic self and your role. This is a space and opportunity for self-reflection. We want to learn and grow with each other.
- Small Group Discussions on Inclusion. What is inclusion and why it is important to have in our community. Each group had a facilitator and had to answer a number of questions on inclusivity.
