  • Around the World with Señor McKey : Pre-K3 - 2nd, 3:15 – 4:00 on Mondays

    Teacher: Mayson McKey
    Grades: Pre-K3 - 2nd
    Day and Time: Mondays from 3:15 - 4:00 p.m.
    Tuition: $300 for ASC students, $350 for non-ASC students
    Location: Global Voices classroom, main building

    Course Description:
    Join Señor McKey as we take an adventure around the world. Together we will learn about different cultures, music, hear personal experiences, and use greetings from countries around the world. Friends will have the opportunity to explore countries via google earth, watch and listen to natives talk about their country, and create their own passports to show their journey! I can't wait to travel the world with you!

    Instructor Bio:
    Mayson McKey is a Foundations and Early Childhood Spanish Teacher, and Coordinator of the Global Voices program at St. Andrew's.
  • Introduction to Mandarin: Pre-K3 – K, 3:30 – 4:00 p.m. on Mondays

    Grades: PreK3 – K
    Day and Time: Mondays from 3:30 – 4:00 p.m.
    Tuition: free for ASC students, $50 for non-ASC students
    Location: Kennedy Hall

    This course is for our youngest learners who have not had previous Mandarin experience. Students will learn Chinese childrens’ songs, dance, and some simple language which relates to food and animals, and will also watch videos in Mandarin.

    Please note that Mandarin Enrichment courses are year-long. If your child is currently taking a Mandarin Enrichment and wants to continue, they should sign up for the same course for spring semester. The lessons and activities will be different.

    STEAM is a fun class where students learn about Science, Technology, Art, and Math. STEAM subjects nurture the development of additional skills like creative thinking, collaboration, and communication. Kids channel their energy into meaningful projects. When students enjoy the project, they engage with the material and retain knowledge. Let's learn and have fun!

    Instructor Bio:
    My name is Sandra Flores. I have been an educator for 20 years; I was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico; I went to college at the University of Monterrey N, L CEDIM.
    I received my accreditation in early childhood in 2008, worked in Texas and Mississippi in Catholic Schools, then moved to St. Andrews in 2015, worked at ECC in prek3, and worked in different grades as a first-grade S@H teacher last year.
    Working with younger kids has been my heart and passion. I love to see them grow and develop their many gifts and talents.

  • STEAM Lab with Mrs. Vial: 1st and 2nd grades, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays

    Day and Time: Tuesdays from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
    Tuition: $375 for ASC students, $425 for non-ASC students
    Location: Lower School Discovery Center
    Dismissal: Via the back carpool/parking area

    Kids are natural scientists, exploring and experimenting all the time. In this class, they will use materials that are easily found in most  kitchens and playgrounds to develop and fun experiments. Can we make ice melt faster or slower? Can we turn salt into play dough? They will create different experiments and expand on them each week. Some activities include creating salt paints and sun art, making candy geodes, experimenting with yeast and bread making, making ice cream in a bag and dancing raisins. It will be a fun, messy semester of exploring ideas and experimentation.  
  • STEAM Lab with Mrs. Vial: 3rd – 4th Grades, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Thursdays

    Students will explore Newton's Laws of Motion to create Rube Goldberg-styled activities including creating chemical reactions, sinking ships, moving mountains, and creating art. The students will identify their own problems and develop a reaction-based sequence to solve them. Some of the physics activities include vortex cannons, straw rockets and different types of bottle rockets, and parachutes to protect their "egg"; pilots. The science will be fun, exciting, and a bit messy!
