This award celebrates the life of Whitney Luckett Watkins ’92. Just as she inspired others when alive, she continues to inspire others through this award. “Whitney left a big impression in so many positive ways,” says Jason Watkins '91, Whitney’s husband of nine years. “She took all the bad and turned it into good.” When 32-year-old Whitney lost her heroic battle with melanoma on Valentine’s Day 2007, she left behind her family, her children Web and Douglas, and a community devastated by her loss but encouraged by her example.
Whitney was an honor student, captain of the cheerleading squad, and MVP on the basketball and track teams. She went on to graduate from Rhodes College, marry her high school sweetheart, start a family, and develop a successful career turning “fixer-uppers” into lovely homes. St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is honored to recognize each year a student who, like Whitney, inspires others to be their best.
Alumni and friends of the Luckett and Watkins families are invited to support the Whitney Luckett Watkins Memorial Award through a gift to the endowment established in her name. The light of Whitney's life shines on through this award.
