Global Engagement

Travel Tuesdays & Thursdays

With Travel Thursdays, the Global Studies team hopes to inspire students to learn about and see the world. Each Thursday during lunch students are invited to eat pizza and attend a program in the Science Lecture Hall. Past presentations and speakers have included members of The Department of State, global non-profit organizations, St. Andrew’s student and faculty travelers, and recipients of travel grants. Travel Thursday also offers an opportunity to engage with groups of students visiting us from our partner schools. Individual sessions are offered to highlight international travel opportunities offered at the school for each academic year! There are also Travel Tuesdays twice a month in the Middle School!

2019-20 Global Studies Book Club Reading Selections

Through the Global Studies Book Club, students have the opportunity to read authors from around the world and to discuss global issues from different perspectives. The book club will meet once a quarter and feature books that not only have global themes but that are also favorites of the Global Studies Team. Discussions will happen during lunch and some of the choices will be selected from the Advanced Placement Literature reading list. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Language Clubs

St. Andrew’s language clubs provide opportunities for students to engage more deeply with a world language and culture that they have chosen to study. Students can participate and assume leadership roles in the French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin clubs. Club activities include guest speakers, fundraising for international non-profits, organizing activities for incoming exchange groups, foreign film nights, and food sales.

International Week

International Education Week (IEW) is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. It aims to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide and hopes to promote programs that prepare students for our global environment. Each year, St. Andrew’s observes International Education Week and plans a variety of events and programs to engage students, faculty, and the community in activities and discussions. Previous events have included a panel discussion about study abroad opportunities in college, a language festival, an international food event, and a video of SA alumni discussing their international experiences.
