Global Programming

Travel Thursdays

Each Thursday during lunch, the Global Studies team invites Upper School students to eat pizza and hear from speakers as a way to inspire them to learn about and see the world. Past presentations have included members of The Department of State, global non-profit organizations, St. Andrew’s student and faculty travelers, and travel grant recipients. Travel Thursdays also give students opportunities to engage with students visiting us from our international partner schools as well as learn about the travel opportunities offered each academic year.

*Travel Tuesdays are offered twice a month for Middle School students.

Global Studies Book Club Reading Selections

Students who participate in the Global Studies Reading Club are introduced to authors from around the world. Book selections feature global themes that welcome different perspectives and allow for discussion on a variety of global issues. The book club meets once each quarter during lunch. Past selections include:

Language Clubs

St. Andrew’s language clubs provide opportunities for students to engage more deeply with the world language and culture that they have chosen to study. Students can participate and assume leadership roles in the French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Latin clubs. Club activities include guest speakers, fundraising for international non-profits, organizing activities for incoming exchange groups, foreign film nights, and food sales.

International Week

International Education Week (IEW) is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. It aims to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide and hopes to promote programs that prepare students for our global environment. Each year, St. Andrew’s observes International Education Week and plans a variety of events and programs to engage students, faculty, and the community in activities and discussions. Previous events have included a panel discussion about study abroad opportunities in college, a language festival, an international food event, and a video of SA alumni discussing their international experiences.
