ECC Celebrates Chinese Moon Festival

The Moon Festival, also called the Mid-Autumn Festival, is one of the most celebrated Chinese holidays. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar each year, when the moon is at its roundest and brightest. On this day, Chinese families celebrate the end of harvest season and give thanks for a good harvest, family, and friendships.

 

This year, the Moon Festival was September 13, and our pre-K3, pre-K4, and kindergarten students celebrated the Chinese Moon Festival in Ford Hall. In preparation for this special day, our youngest Mandarin students learned The Moon Song and made lanterns. They also discovered why people celebrate the Moon Festival. They were excited to watch a shadow puppet rendition of “The Legend of the Moon Festival” (thanks to the help of St. Andrew’s parents). In doing so, they all discovered that at the heart of every culture’s holiday celebration is the desire to honor one another and give thanks. The children enjoyed their morning together for this very happy holiday!
