The Writing Center Presents "The Art of Storytelling"
Today during lunch the Upper School Writing Center hosted biographer and former St. Andrew's English teacher Dr. Carolyn Brown as the first guest speaker in a new series called "The Art of Storytelling." This series was designed for juniors and seniors as they experience the challenge of storytelling not only in regard to their classroom papers but also as they begin the college application process. Dr. Brown spoke to the students on her experience writing and publishing biographies on Mississippi women, from choosing her subject to the research involved. The conversation was facilitated by senior Writing Fellow Mary Elizabeth Kees. Each year, Upper School students apply to becoming Writing Fellows with The Center. Fellows meet weekly and are tasked with mentoring peers across subject matters, providing support for teachers in their classrooms, tutoring, and editing and commenting on papers submitted by peers to The Writing Center.
