Week 1: Marbles and Matchbox Cars (June 3 – 7, 2024)

Join us for another awesome summer of Explorer Camp, exclusively for 5th through 8th grades, on our North Campus in Ridgeland.

Week 1: Marbles and Matchbox Cars
Campers will be using the power of gravity to propel marbles and matchbox vehicles through courses of their own design. We will conduct races, build obstacle courses, paint liveries, and learn about the science (and money) that go into designing F1 cars.

Explorer Camp meets on the North Campus in Ridgeland from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and costs $285 per week.

Campers will begin each day on the North Campus learning about and engaging with the week's theme. At noon, they'll eat lunch and then (weather permitting) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, they’ll take a shuttle bus to the Briarwood Pool in Jackson to swim and hang out from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. On inclement weather days and Tuesdays and Thursdays, they will stay on the North Campus for an afternoon of epic camp games, board games, or free play in the gym. They will also have the option to continue working on their projects for the week.

After Camp Care runs until 5:45 p.m. on the South Campus and can be added for an additional $70 per week. The shuttle will drop ASC kids off at the South Campus at around 3:15 p.m., and will head back to the North Campus. All non-ASC Explorer Campers must be picked up from the North Campus no later than 3:30 p.m.
Week 2: Outer Space (June 10 – 14, 2024)

Join us for another awesome summer of Explorer Camp, exclusively for 5th through 8th grades, on our North Campus in Ridgeland.

Week 2: Outer Space
Campers will propel themselves to the farthest reaches of outer space. We will dine on freeze dried astronaut food while contending with the logistical challenges of sending payloads out of the atmosphere. Students will design space suits, build landers, and get a glimpse at some of the math required to send a rocket into orbit.

Do you have what it takes to swim with the St. Andrew’s
Sharks? Campers will spend this week ideating and prototyping their new must-have product, study other entrepreneurs’ successful pitches before finally making a presentation to a panel of 3 sharks. This perennial favorite makes a come back.

Week 4: Escape! (June 24 – 28, 2024)

Week 4: Escape!
Campers will marry their narrative-building skills to their design-thinking abilities as they work to develop their very own escape room. First we will take a trip to a Jackson area escape room to seek inspiration (and see if we’re up to the challenge of escaping) before spending the rest of the week designing a delightfully difficult room of our own.

Week 5: The City of Tomorrow (July 1 – 3, 2024) No camp Thusday 7/4 or Friday 7/5

Week 5: The City of Tomorrow
Campers will work together to design and build, with the help of plenty of cardboard, a model city, embracing all the complexity such an endeavor will entail. They will consider zoning, transportation, and infrastructure needs like water, power, and data, all while learning about the real life difficulties of bringing an architectural drawing to life.

*No camp on Thursday 7/4 or Friday 7/5. Week 5 is a three-day week, due to the Independence Day Holiday.

After Camp Care: $50/week.

Week 6: Let's Game It Out (July 8 – 12, 2024)

Week 6: Let's Game It Out
Do you ever wish you could tweak the rules of Monopoly just a bit? Do you feel like you’ve found a much better way for SORRY! to be played? This week, campers will modify existing games to make them play better, or completely create their own. We will dive deep into design concepts and talk about what makes games feel fun, and what elements can make them feel unfair.

Week 7: Filmaking (July 15 – 19, 2024)

Join us for another awesome summer of Explorer Camp, exclusively for 5th through 8th grades, on our North Campus in Ridgeland.

Week 7: Filmmaking
Campers can channel their inner Gerwig as they write, direct, film, edit, and release their own movies over the course of the week. Using iPads and iMovie, campers will collaborate to make the films of their dreams. Popcorn provided for all.

Week 8: Explorer Olympics (July 22 – 26, 2024)

Join us for another awesome summer of Explorer Camp, exclusively for 5th through 8th grades, on our North Campus in Ridgeland.

Week 8: Explorer Olympics
To celebrate the 2024 Olympiad, we will be learning about the history of the games, including events no longer in the games (tug of war!) as well as thinking about events we’d like to see added to future games. We will also design costumes for the march of nations and, of course, have athletic competitions all week long.
