Senior Selected as Finalist for Pulitzer Local Letters for Global Change

Congratulations to Toni Oluwatade for being selected as a finalist for the Pulitzer Center Contest, Local Letters for Global Change! Toni’s letter was selected from among 500 entries from all over the U.S. and three countries and will be published on the Pulitzer Center website.

In her letter to Representative Bennie Thompson, citing “Diabetes on the Rise in Senegal,” Toni explored the causes and effects of diabetes in Senegal and highlighted the issue of diabetes in Mississippi. To conclude, Toni provided solutions to decreasing diabetes in our state, such as building more grocery stores in food deserts and implementing nutrition programs in schools.
