Softball

The varsity team fought hard against Ethel on Tuesday afternoon, February 21. For the first game of the season, the Saints had several things to be proud of. 8th grader Callie Sullivan was the starting pitcher and had a strikeout. Freshman Ashley Bryan made a great defensive play at shortstop. Sophomore Elaine Farr had the Saints lone hit with a rip up the middle. Junior Isabel Mitchell started her first ever softball game at catcher and did a phenomenal job.

The junior varsity team came up short against Ethel 6-0. For many of the girls, this was their first ever softball game. While the Saints did not have any hits, there were a lot of balls that were put into play. 7th grader Layla Roberts reached on an error and 7th grader Stella Roman was the starting pitcher and had 1 strikeout. Freshman Sophia Le came in to pitch for the first time ever in the last inning and ended the inning with a strike out.

On Thursday, February 23, varsity played hard and showed great improvement against a tough district opponent. 8th grader Callie Sullivan had 3 strikeouts and made a great play on a hot shot hit right back at her. 11th grader Isabel Mitchell hustled on a passed ball and with a flip to Callie Sullivan, they caught a girl trying to steal home. Sophomore Elaine Farr handled several hard hits to her at third base. Junior Catherine Bryson made a great catch in center field to end an inning when Seminary had runners on base. At the plate, Isabel Mitchell earned a walk and Sophomore Julia Mitchell had a single down the third base line.

The junior varsity team was only able to play 2 innings before it was too dark to safely see the ball. After two innings, we were down 10-2. The Saints first two runs of the season came from a single up the middle by 7th grader Mira Mitchell. She brought home 7th grader Stella Roman and 8th grader Lizzie Bryson who both reached base on walks. 7th grader Hazel Misenar played a phenomenal game at catcher. She showed great improvement with her blocking skills and almost caught two girls stealing home on passed balls.

Both teams hope to continue to show improvement this week against Magee and McAdams.
