Powerlifting

The four qualifying members of the Saints varsity girls powerlifting team traveled to St. Patrick High School in Biloxi for the 3A Girls South State Semi-final Championship Meet on Saturday, March 11. Nicknamed "The Bookends" because the team is comprised of two 7th graders and two 12th graders, all four Saints lifters exceeded their previous personal records and lift totals from the Region 3-3A meet at Pearl in February. Senior Lucy McCain took 4th place in her weight division with a lift total of 480 lbs. (squat-175, bench-75, and deadlift-230). 7th graders Miriam Camp and Kaybry Lewis each captured 5th place in their weight divisions with lift totals of 360 lbs. (squat-135, bench-70, deadlift-155) and 285 lbs. (squat-95, bench-55, deadlift-135) respectively. All three completed very successful seasons in their first year of powerlifting competition.

In her second season with the sport, senior Jasper Jones qualified for a return trip to the Mississippi Coliseum and the 3A Girls State Championship Meet on March 31 by capturing the 3rd Place bronze medal in her weight class with a lift total of 480 lbs. (squat-165, bench-90, and deadlift-225) being narrowly edged out by the silver medalist from St. Patrick.

The St. Andrew's baseball team went on its annual spring trip last week. The trip began Friday, March 10 with a victory over St. Patrick at Pearl River Community College. The Saints then defeated Foley High School Saturday, lost a close game to Escambia High School from Pensacola on Monday, and then lost to Pine Forest High School in Pensacola on the last day of the trip. The junior varsity team also played 3 games, defeating Foley and Pine Forest but losing to Escambia. The Saints begin division play this week vs. Crystal Springs on Tuesday at home and Friday on the road, while also playing home games vs. Loyd Star Thursday and Lake High School Saturday.
