Powerlifting

This past Friday, March 3, junior Larry Johnson traveled to Kossuth High School to represent St. Andrew's in the North State 3A Boys Semifinal Championship Powerlifting Meet. Larry competed in the under-275 lb. weight division and captured the 3rd place bronze medal, qualifying for the State Championship Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, April 1 in the Mississippi Coliseum. 

In the process of taking 3rd place in the North State Meet, Larry once again achieved four new personal records in the squat (505 lbs.), the bench press (315 lbs.) and the deadlift (455 lbs.) for a lift total of 1275 lbs. Please wish him the best of luck for the state championship meet. 
 

Track and Field

St. Andrew's will be hosting its first ever 5th & 6th Grade Saints Invitational: Part 1 on Tuesday March 7 at 4:00 pm.
 

Lacrosse

This past Saturday, the lacrosse team traveled to Memphis to play the Eagles of St. Benedict of Auburndale High School. The Saints put up a tough fight but came away with a close 7-8 loss. The team will return to action on March 25 with a match at Thompson High School in Birmingham, Alabama.
 

Baseball

The St. Andrew's varsity baseball team lost a 2-0 decision to Jackson Academy, defeated Central Hinds in the home opener 11-0, and lost to Pearl High School 14-8 this past week. The JV team also lost to JA, defeated Central Hinds, and lost to Pearl. The 9th grade/Middle School team lost games to Manchester Academy and Central Hinds this past week. All teams are in action again this week with the JV/varsity playing Lamar School at home tongiht, before leaving on the annual spring break trip this Friday. The Saints will play St. Patrick from Biloxi, Foley High School in Alabama, and Escambia High School and Pine Forest High School from Pensacola. The trip is always a lot of fun and filled with good baseball teams to play. The 9th grade/Middle School team will play this Thursday at St. Joe.

Walker Van Meter, a junior on the Saints varsity team, was named PBR Mizuno Player of the Week for his play the week of February 20-25. Van Meter was 8 for 12 at the plate with 3 doubles, a home run, 5 RBIs, and 7 runs scored.
 

Softball

On Tuesday, February 28, the varsity softball team lost to Magee 22-11. Not only did the Saints score their first 11 runs of the season, but they also avoided the 3 inning run rule and made it to the 5th inning. Callie Sullivan got the start on the mound and struck out 5 girls, bringing her season total to 9 strikeouts. Magee scored 4 runs in the 1st inning, but the Saints rallied back scoring 3 of their own. Catherine Bryson led off the inning by reaching on a dropped 3rd strike. She then stole 2nd and 3rd on passed balls. Callie Sullivan hit an infield single that scored Catherine Bryson and then she moved around the bases and scored on passed balls. Elaine Farr hit a stand-up triple and later scored on a single by Ashley Bryan. Isabel Mitchell reached on a hit by pitch but was left on base. The Saints got out of the 2nd without Magee scoring any runs. After Magee scored 7 runs in the 3rd, the Saints battled back scoring 5 of their own. Sophia Le, Miriam Camp, and Julia Moore all walked to load the bases. Catherine Bryson singled to score Sophia Le. 7th grader Mira Mitchell then hit an infield single in her first varsity game to score Miriam Camp. Julia Moore, Catherine Bryson, and Mira Mitchell all came around to score on passed balls. Callie Sullivan and Elaine Farr also reached base on walks but were left on base. In the 4th inning, Sophia Le reached base on her 3rd walk of the game. Ashley Bryan singled and Miriam Camp walked who then scored on Catherine Bryson’s monster triple. In the 5th inning, Sophia Le had the Saints lone hit to the 5/6 hole. 
 
Due to the high scoring varsity game, the junior varsity was unable to play before it was dark. 
 
The softball team does not have any games scheduled this week due to the 8th grade school trip. The next game is at home on Thursday, March 23 against Raleigh. Varsity will start at 4:00 with JV following with whatever sunlight is left.
 

Tennis

Last week, Saints tennis played St. Joe and won 6-1. They also played Yazoo County and won 7-0. In the one court we lost to St. Joe, Camp Tarver and Arnav Patel fought hard and barely lost in a tie-breaker. This week, the team plays Northwest Rankin at the Reservoir YMCA at 3:30 pm on Wednesday and then hosts McLaurin at 5:30 pm on Thursday.
 

Golf

Addison Tatum played in the Clinton JV Invitational on February 22 at Live Oaks Golf Club and shot a 122. St. Andrew's will host its girls tournament this Thursday at Whisper Lake Country Club.
On Monday, March 6, St. Andrew's participated in the Clinton JV Invitational at Live Oaks and the Jackson Academy Invitational at Reunion Golf and Country Club. Results were as follows:
