National Merit Semifinalists

Congratulations to the 8 seniors who qualified as National Merit Semifinalists based on their outstanding PSAT scores. St. Andrew's has had 50 students qualify as Semifinalists in the last 5 years! The students are (from left) Victoria Mungan, Meredith Johnson, Nate Venarske, Trey Till, Ishan Bhatt, Ian Espy, Allen Ryu, and Julia Mitchell.

 

About 16,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers, are notified that they have qualified as Semifinalists each September. To ensure that academically talented young people from all parts of the United States are included in this talent pool, Semifinalists are designated on a state representational basis. They are the highest scoring entrants in each state. To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, Semifinalists must advance to Finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards and all other requirements. In February, the names of the students who advanced to Finalist are announced.
