Uwe Azomani Attends Barça Academy in Barcelona
Last summer, 7th grader Uwe Azomani participated in the Barça Academy Clinic in San Antonio with coaches from Barça Academy in Barcelona, Spain. High performing team members were selected for a two-week residency academy in Barcelona over Thanksgiving Break. Uwe was selected in his age group and was assigned to team Araujo to play with other boys from different parts of the country. It was a residential camp with chaperones and coaches providing daily oversight.
Participants were trained on the Barça methodology, which is characterized by a creative and attacking brand of soccer, promoting positive values including respect, effort, ambition, teamwork, and modesty. The boys trained very early every morning at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, the official training ground for all Barcelona FC teams. They then played games in the evenings with age-level soccer teams from the Barcelona metro area.
They also had the opportunity to watch the Barcelona FC female team play a league game with Deportivo Alaves at the Johan Cryuff Stadium and watched Alexia Putellas — the Women’s Ballon d’or Féminin for two years in a row — during training. They toured Camp Nou, the home stadium of FC Barcelona since 1957, and walked the journey of the team on a game day. The boys also explored the city of Barcelona, including the wonderful architecture and works of Antonio Gaudi Casa Batlló and La Pedrera-Casa Milà, and visited Parc de la Ciutadella and the Montserat Monastery.
